You may be itching to remodel a room but be constrained by both time and money. But that doesn’t mean that you have to give up your dream. One of the easiest ways to update and refresh the look of a room is by installing new lighting and lamps.

The reason for this is simple: Lighting sets the mood of the room. Switching up the lighting elements can repurpose a room entirely or give it a much-needed facelift. Below are some suggestions for updating your room with lamps and lighting.

Create a Space in the Room

Would you like to add a reading or study nook to your living room? Use targeted lighting to direct light to a corner of the room. Add a soft chair to snuggle into and a small side table and you have effectively enhanced both the look and purpose of your existing space.

Open Up Your Area

Smallish rooms can appear larger with the right lighting elements installed. Track lighting can illuminate your existing color scheme. LED bulbs are a good choice when you want small spaces to open up.

Make It a Focal Point

If you are lucky enough to own a Tiffany lamp, surely you want it to be the main focus of your room. But you don’t have to break the bank to create a lovely retro look. Antique shops and even yard sales are great spots to discover funky lamps from bygone eras.

Add a colorful new shade and a coat of paint and your lamp will become a cherished accessory in the room of your choice.

All About the Ambiance

Maybe your room is just too bright for your taste. You can add ambiance by using a drum shade on a lamp to soften the light in the room. Adding dimmer switches to existing lighting fixtures is another very economical way to tone down unwelcome glare.

Consider Colored Bulbs

You can create moods in a room using colored bulbs. Without appearing garish, pastel bulbs can refresh a room with their soft glow. Tired of the look? Just change the bulb for a wholly different vibe.

This is an especially good choice around the holidays when you want to create the special ambiance of the season without overwhelming the room entirely. Play around with this look until you achieve the mood and vibe you desire.
